This is an illustrated page from the book "The Soldier in Our Civil War". The book was originally published in 1884 as a tribute to the soldiers and sailors of both sides of the war. The illustration is from page 118 of Volume 1 and is in good condition. It measures 16 1/2" wide and is 11 1/2" tall. The illustration from an original 1884 printed book is mounted on a piece of cardboard and is protected by a plastic sleeve. This one page from the book looks just the way it did when it was printed 138 years ago. There are no smudges, stains, rips, tears, creases or folds on the page. The black and white illustration shows a view of Forts Hatteras and Clark in North Carolina after their capture on 29 August, 1861. The print on the page reads "General View of Forts Hatteras and Clark, N. C. Captured on the 29th of August, 1861, by the United States naval and Military Forces, Under the Command of Commodore Stringham and Major General Butler".
