This is a Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic membership badge medallion. The Ladies of the GAR is a Congressionally chartered non profit organization, and is the oldest women's hereditary organization in the United States. It was founded in 1886 and continues today. The badge medallion is made in the fashion of the Grand Army of the Republic medallion, with the main difference being the words LADIES OF THE GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC and the year 1886 surrounding the five figures in the center of the medal. This one is in good condition and would make a nice addition to any Ladies of the GAR collection.
