This is a Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic delegates button for the 46th National Encampment held September 9th - 14th, 1912 in Los Angeles, California. The Ladies of the GAR is a Congressionally chartered non profit organization, and is the oldest women's hereditary organization in the United States. It was founded in 1886 and continues today. This badge consists of a header, ribbon and medallion. The header has a nice chocolate brown patina and is back marked J K DAVISON SONS PHILA. The ribbon is yellow and still has a nice bright appearance. In silver lettering on the ribbon are the words Ladies of the G.A.R. The ribbon is completely broken at the bottom where it attaches to the medallion. The medallion itself is not back marked. On the face it has a bear, the state animal of California, in a wilderness type setting. On a banner across the bottom it is written LOS ANGELES CAL. This is a pretty scarce badge, and even with the ribbon in the condition it is in is still very collectible. You can put this one with your GAR Encampment collection, Ladies of the GAR collection or you California GAR collection.
