This is a belt axe from the Greenville, Tennessee area circa early 1800's. It recently came into the shop along with a couple of powder horns and a knife. The iron head is 2" wide at the cutting edge and 1" on the polled side. You can see plenty of the added steel on the cutting edge. The overall width of this axe is 5". This one has seen moderate use, and still has a haft. The haft measures 13 1/2" in length and is just slightly loose on the head. It came with verbal history of being found in a barn just outside of Greenville. If you have a cabin or rustic decor in your home or office this piece would really add to it!
