This is a Grand Army of the Republic presentation badge from the early 1900's. The badge is made up of a header with a shield type badge suspended by round links. The header is gold plated and engraved with Miss Sadie Renkin. The engraving is early 1900's period and very legible. The badge is made up of a military style shield with the GAR emblem a fixed to it. The GAR emblem has blue enamel paint in the center that really highlights the figures in the center. The letters G.A.R. and the dates 1861-1866 are also done in blue enamel paint. There is no makers mark on the back, but the shield is engraved with Presented By/POST 88 G.A.R./May 26th 1908. Who knows which state GAR Post 88 was, or who Miss Renkin was. This little presentation badge has some great appeal, and would go well with a GAR or Ladies of the GAR collection.
