This is a lapel button of Admiral Dewey from the 1890's period from the Prudential Life Insurance Company. He was known as the "Hero of Manila", where he had engaged the Spanish fleet there and destroyed it to the last ship, suffering only one casualty himself. The button is 1 1/4" across and remains in very good condition. I do not know who manufactured the button, as it is fixed onto a foam block. Prudential was founded in 1875, and sold burial insurance to the working lower class. They began selling life insurance to the working class at three cents a policy and has grown into a Fortune 500 company. The button was an attempt to cash in on Admiral Dewey's fame just after the Spanish American War. It's another unique piece of Spanish American War history that will compliment you Span-Am collection.
