This is a hat that was used in the Buffalo Bill and 101 Ranch Wild West shows in the 1920's. There are reported photographs of performers from both shows wearing this top hat, but I haven't found any yet. The condition of this felt material hat is very good. It was made by the Dorfman Pacific Company of Oakland, California. The felt is a medium gray color, and has no moth damage. There are two small holes in the crown, but they aren't from moths. The 2 1/4" wide tan hat band is in good condition, no damage but a little bit of light soiling showing. The crown stands 7" tall and the brim is 2" and is rolled. The sweatband is still securely attached to the hat. It is ink stamped dp DORFMAN-PACIFIC CO. INC./OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. Attached to the front of the hat is an 1881 Infantry Dress Hat badge. The badge has attained a beautiful aged patina, and contrasts well with the painted red and blue shield on the eagle's breast. A Native American quillwork hat band with emblem finishes off the decorations. This is a cool piece and would look great in your Wild West Show collection or display!
