This is a souvenir badge for the 46th annual encampment of the Department of Michigan GAR organization held 1924 in Lansing, Michigan. The badge is made up of a header badge and a medallion suspended by a brass link from the header. The header badge features an unfurled banner with LANSING MICHIGAN over the dome of the state capital building. The header has a light chocolate patina to it that is very attractive. A small cardboard insert with a plastic protective cover is below the capital dome for the veteran to write his name on. Suspended from the header is a medallion with the GAR emblem above two American flags and laurel branches coming up from the bottom and going up the side. The letters G A R are intertwined and embossed at the very bottom of the medallion. In an arc above the GAR letters it reads "46th ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT/DEPT. OF MICHIGAN". The badge is back marked BASTIAN BROS CO./ROCHESTER N.Y. with a hallmark in the middle. It would appear that this badge originally had a ribbon, but is no longer with the medal. This encampment was a state wide event, open to all GAR members from Michigan. The badge is in very good condition, and would an excellent addition to any GAR collection.
