This is a Smith and Wesson Model #1 1/2 single action .32 caliber revolver. Approximately 97574 of these revolvers were manufactured by Smith & Wesson between 1878 and 1892. The serial # of 65477 puts this one being manufactured in the mid to late 1880's. The serial number is stamped on the bottom of the back strap, inside the right grip and both are very legible. This little pocket pistol measures 7 1/2" in overall length, with a barrel length of 3 1/2". The top of the round barrel is stamped "Smith and Wesson Springfield Mass. PAT. APR. 3. 55. JULY 5. 59. & NOV. 21. 65". The sights are fixed. This 5 shot revolver has a spur trigger. The cylinder is fluted and is not stamped. The gun was originally blued, but the majority of the bluing is worn off. The metal now has an attractive steel gray patina. The rosewood grips are in good condition, having no cracks or chips. The mechanics of this little firearm operate perfectly. These little pocket pistols were popular with the river boat gamblers and others with less than honorable intentions! This one displays well, and will enhance any pistol collection.
