This is the medal portion of a Cuban Occupation Medal awarded members of the United States Army between 1898 and 1902. The blue, red and yellow ribbon is missing, but the medallion still has some great eye appeal. This medal was awarded to all Army personnel who served in Cuba 18 July, 1898 and 20 May, 1902. The front side of the medal has a Cuban Coat of Arms in the center with the dates of 1898 and 1902 on either side of the crest at the top. In raised letters in an arc around the perimeter of the medal it reads ARMY OFOCCUPATION MILITARY GOVERNMENT OF CUBA. The back of the medal has a spread winged eagle in the center. UNITED STATES ARMY is in raised letters above the eagle and FOR SERVICE is below the eagle. There are thirteen five point stars around the bottom of the medal. Even though the ribbon is missing, this is still a rare piece of US Army history. I'm pretty sure you can probably pick up a reproduction ribbon to make this medal complete. It's a great Span Am piece of history, and will add to your Spanish American War medal display.
