The United Spanish War Veterans organization was the result of three large Span-Am veterans groups merging in 1904. It's members were veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine American War and the China Relief Expedition. This USWV medal is for Kansas veterans attending the 19th Annual Encampment held in Junction City, Kansas on 9-10 June, 1926. The badge is 4 1/2" tall, with the hanger being 2" wide. The hanger is a simple rectangle with a small paper insert for the veterans to write their name on. This medal is named to L. G. Ashton, written in very clear cursive black ink. Suspended below the hanger is a red and yellow ribbon with the words "19th ANNUAL/ENCAMPMENT/DEPARTMENT/OF KANSAS/U.S.W.V./JUNCTION CITY/JUNE 9-10, 1926" in gold printed on it. Suspended from the ribbon is the United Spanish War Veterans emblem of a cross with a disc centered in the middle. This medal is in overall very good condition. The ribbon is not stained or frayed, but does have two small slits in it. The header badge and medallion have a matching bronze patina and display well. The back of the header is stamped with the maker mark of WHITEHEAD - HOAG NEWARK N.J. in a straight line. This USWV reunion medal has some great eye appeal, and would look great in any Spanish American War display.
