This is a souvenir badge for the 34th annual encampment of the Department of Kansas GAR organization held 11 - 13 May, 1915 in Hutchinson, Kansas. The badge is made up of a header badge and a medallion suspended by chains from the header. The header badge features a spread wing eagle at the top clutching a sword in it's talons and crossed cannon above a military style shield with laurel branches on either side of the shield. All this is atop a rectangular bar with the letters G.A.R embossed on it. The header has a silver plating, along with the rest of the badge. Suspended from the header is a medallion in the shape of a headstone. Embossed on the stone is 34th/ANNUAL/Encampment/DEP'T./of/KANSAS/GAR/HUTCHINSON/1915. The badge is back marked The Whitehead & Hoag Co. in an arc over NEWARK, N.J. This encampment was a state wide event, open to all GAR members from Kansas. The badge is in near mint condition, and would an excellent addition to any GAR collection.
