This is a Grand Army of the Republic Department of Kansas reunion ribbon from the 7th annual reunion of the soldiers of Butler County, Kansas held in El Dorado, Kansas on 10-12 October, 1900. The ribbon is red with black lettering. It reads SEVENTH ANNUAL REUNION above a Grand Army of the Republic badge and BUTLER COUNTY SOLDIERS EL DORADO, KAN. Oct 10, 11, 12, 1900 below it. The header is missing from the ribbon, but the ribbon itself still displays well. A newspaper article from the Walnut Valley Times, El Dorado, Kansas, dated 17 Aug, 1883 listed 958 soldiers by name living in Butler County at that time. They were not all natives of Kansas, as Butler County, Kansas only had 408 people registered in the 1860 census. This will make a nice addition to your Kansas GAR collection.
