56th Annual Kansas Department Sons of Union Veterans Encampment Badge

This is an encampment badge for the 56th annual encampment of the Department of Kansas Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War & Auxiliary held 8 - 12 May, 1939 in Hutchinson, Kansas. The badge is made up of a header badge and a ribbon. The header badge is gold tinted tin with a provision to insert a piece of paper with the veterans name on it. The blue ribbon is in excellent condition. There are no frays, tears or stains found anywhere. The ribbon has gold lettering that reads "56th ANNUAL/ENCAMPMENT/KANSAS/DEPARTMENT/SONS OF UNION/VETERANS OF THE/ CIVIL WAR/& AUXILIARY/ HUTCHINSON, KAN./MAY 8 - 12, 1939". The bottom of the ribbon has fringe, and is not frayed. The badge is back marked is gold lettering on the back of the ribbon "ST LOUIS BUTTON CO./ST LOUIS, MO./." This encampment was a state wide event, open to all Sons of Union soldiers and their auxiliary members from Kansas. The badge is in near mint condition, and would an excellent addition to any GAR collection.
