This is a souvenir badge for the 38th National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic, Department of Massachusetts held 17 - 18 August, 1904 in Boston, Massachusetts. The badge is made up of a header badge and a medallion suspended from two chains. The header badge is stamped DEPT. MASS./G.A.R. The header has a bronze tint to it. Suspended from the header by two small chains is a pot of Boston baked beans! The front of the pot has raised letters that spell out BEANS, with beans overflowing from the top of the pot. The badge is not back marked. The pin on the back of the header is still present. This encampment was a national event, open to all GAR members from across the nation. The badge is in good condition, and would make an excellent addition to any GAR collection.
