This is a civilian wool blanket from the Civil War period. It is made of undyed Kersey weave wool and is made of two panels joined midseam. The edges of the blanket are hand stitched on all four edges. This one measures 83" x 83". This blanket is made of one single piece of material. The stitching is still very strong. There is some light staining and a few small holes here and there. For the most part this blanket is in excellent condition. Stenciled in one corner of the blanket is "BENJ. LIBBY/WARREN, ME./Co. B 24th Me Reg't" There is a Private Benjamin Libby from Warren, Maine listed on the Civil War database. He served in Company B, 24th Maine Infantry Regiment. The 24th Maine was a nine month unit, organized in Augusta, Maine on 16 October, 1862 and mustered out on 25 August, 1863. I'm not certain when the stencil was placed on the blanket, but the blanket itself is Civil War period.
