The United Spanish War Veterans organization was the result of three large Span-Am veterans groups merging in 1904. It's members were veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine American War and the China Relief Expedition. This USWV medal is a delegates badge for the encampment held in June, 1916 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The badge is 3 1/2" tall, with the hanger being 1 3/4" wide. The hanger is stamped POYYSVILLE JUNE 1916 with No 32 below it. Suspended below the hanger is the DELEGATE bar, with a round disc suspended below the bar. A cross is centered in the disc and the letter USWV etched into each arm of the cross. A red and yellow ribbon was attached to the hanger to complete the badge. The ribbon is pretty tired, being detached from the hanger and frayed along the bottom. The back of the hanger is marked stamped with the maker mark of Whitehead and Hoag of Newark, New Jersey. While this one has a problem with the ribbon, it's still not one you run across everyday.
