This is a cabinet card image of an unknown Grand Army of the Republic veteran circa 1890-1905. The visible image measures 2 1/4" wide by 3 3/4" tall. It is housed in a cardboard frame that measures 4 1/4" wide by 6" tall. The corners of the frame are square with the border beveled. There condition of the frame is very good. There is no damage to the image at all. The image shows an unidentified GAR member in his later years, in a standing pose with a plain back drop. He is wearing a double breasted jacket with military style buttons, white shirt and tie, a slouch hat and has a large snare drum slung over his right shoulder. On his jacket can be seen a GAR medal and three or four reunion badges or ribbons. He has a white beard and hair and looks to be in his sixties when this photograph was taken. He holds a drum stick in each hand. The studio's name and location are embossed on the front of the cardboard frame, "Fowler MARIETTA O.". I have not been able to find any information on the Fowler studio. Apparently this is a former drummer from one of the many units the state of Ohio fielded during the Civil War. The image is very clear, displays well and will compliment any GAR or image collection.
