Civil War Massachusetts Militia Coat Button

This is a non excavated two piece coat size Massachusetts Militia button from the 1860-1900 period. The button is back marked SCOVILL MF'G CO,/WATERBURY. The button is in very good condition. It has the Massachusetts State seal on a smooth background. The button measures 22 mm and retains a small amount of the original gilt, now displaying a dull golden patina. This button was found inside a Union cartridge box that was recently picked up. The shank is present but leans slightly to one side. This button will make a great start for any collection.
