Import Model 1850 Foot Officer Sword

This is an import Model 1850 Foot Officers sword from the Civil War. The sword measures 37" overall, with a 31 1/4" blade that measures 1 1/16" wide at the hilt. The blade has a stopped fuller that runs 21 1/2" long. The edge has a few small nicks here and there, nothing major. The blade has a dull steel gray patina with scattered patches of oxidation. Both sides of the blade have floral etchings, with a furled banner on the obverse side with the words E PLURIBUS ENUM on it. The obverse and reverse ricassos are blank, no maker marks, inspector stamps or anything else, but I believe this is a German made blade. The leather washer is tired, but still reporting for duty! The brass hilt has an aged, chocolate patina. The knuckle bow is a little loose at the pommel, causing a little deflection in the guard. The pommel cap is secure on the tang, the peen looks to have never been disturbed. The wooden grip is still covered in the original marine wrap, and it shows some honest wear from use. The double strand wire is still very tight to the grip. The leather scabbard is still very strong. There is no crazing, but some loss of color, mostly around the mounts. Overall the scabbard is in good condition. The stitching remains tight and unbroken. The mounts are loose on the scabbard, as both are missing the retaining screws. The drag is also missing the retaining screw and loose on the scabbard as well. The mounts and drag have some pretty elaborate engravings on them. The upper mount has a military style shield above the suspension ring and what looks to be a military drum with floral engraving surrounding it below the suspension ring. The lower mount has a large floral etching both above and below the suspension ring. The drag has an Eagle engraved at the top with a floral motif below it. This is a good example of an imported Model 1850 Foot Officer's sword shows enough wear to have seen the elephant, but is still solid enough to display on a mannequin!
