This is a double action 12mm pinfire revolver from the Civil War era. It has an overall length of approximately 11 3/4", and a barrel length of 6 1/2". The metal has an even steel gray patina over the entire gun. There are just traces of the original bluing showing here and there, mostly in the recessed areas. The round barrel has a smooth, pit free appearance. The front sight is missing from the barrel. There are no proof marks on the barrel, or anywhere else on the gun. The bore is free of pitting and just starting to darken with age. The rifling is worn, but still visible. The cylinder retains the majority of the bluing found on the gun. I can not find the Leige proof mark of ELG within an oval usually stamped there, but I believe this to be a Belgian made gun. The number 2 is stamped on the back side of the barrel, cylinder, arbor pin, loading gate and trigger. These are most likely assembly numbers and not a serial number, and are the only stamps on the revolver. The double action mechanics of this revolver work perfectly. The wood grips fit like a glove and have a beautiful dark brown appearance. The gun still has the lanyard ring and the loading gate works like a charm! These are usually the most common problems found with these pinfire revolvers. There are images of both Union and Confederate soldiers holding these revolvers. This pinfire revolver displays great and will add some real eye appeal to any Civil War revolver display!
