This is a reproduction Union enlisted man's kepi based off ones used during the Civil War. The body of the kepi is made of blue wool material. All stitching throughout the kepi is machine sewn, is unbroken and strong. The chinstrap and buttons are missing from the kepi. The stitching that holds the black leather visor on to the body is broken about two thirds of the way across. The previous owner has tried to glue it back into position, not so successfully!. The sweatband is also missing, probably the reason that the visor is loose. The inner lining of the kepi is intact, all the stitching her is also strong and unbroken. It shows plenty of wear, and has a couple of small holes in it. The insignia of the Infantry is attached to the top of the kepi, along with the regimental number 4. This may make a good project for the reenactor in the family, or a nice starter piece for the young collector in the family.
