This is an excavated Connecticut Militia button from the Civil War period. This two piece button is cuff size and has the Connecticut state seal and motto on the face. The back mark is EXTRA QUALITY. The face is dent free, no mars or blemishes. The back of the button is pushed in and has been repaired. The majority of the gilt remains on the button, missing from the high points of the letters in the state motto. The shank is present, but bent over. This button was recovered on private property near where the Battle of Winchester, Virginia occurred.
