This is a set of four images of German soldiers from World War I. One of the images is an actual photograph, the other three are postcards. Two of the postcards are "Sweetheart" postcards depicting a German soldier leaving home for the front, saying goodbye to either his wife or sweetheart. Both of these postcards have similar studio back drops, showing a quant countryside with rolling hills, trees and a typical German house. Each has the soldier and the love of his life staring intently into each others eyes. The soldiers are in full gear, packs and pickelhaubes with rifles. The women are dressed in traditional clothing from that era. Each has a saying written in German above the image, but I can't read German! The third postcard is an image of two German soldiers in an outdoor setting. It is made in an oval format, and looks to be of tow actual German soldiers. They are dressed as if at the front, pickelhaubes with cloth camouflage covers, cartridge belts with boxes and bayonet scabbards, each holding Gewehr 98 rifle. The last image is an actual photograph of two German soldiers in front of a studio back drop. Instead of the pickelhaube helmets, they wear the "pillbox" caps. They stand facing each other, clasping hands as the one on the right puts his right hand on his friends shoulder. They wear cartridge belts without suspenders, visible are a canteen, bayonet and scabbard and another pouch I cannot identify. These two have the look of having seen some fighting. On the back of the photo is some hand writing in German and the date (1914-18). All four images are in very good condition, the one actual photograph showing evidence of having been in an album at some point. If you collect WWI German artifacts, these will fit in your collection nicley.
