This is an M2 fighting knife made famous by the United States Marine Corps during World War II, the Kabar fighting knife. The knife has an overall length of 12", with a blade length of 7". The blade retains much of the original finish, with only the clip point showing bare metal. The stampings are on the blade instead of the crossguard, indicating it was produced in the first year of 1943. The racasso on the obverse side is stamped USMC, the reverse side is stamped CAMILLUS, N.Y. The tang of the blade is cross pinned, and the crossguard is slightly curved to the rear. These last two features seem to fit the changes made in 1944 to the knife. So this may be an early 19944 produced knife using a 1943 blade. Regardless, the stacked leather washer style grip is in very good condition. The leather scabbard shows some wear from use. It is in very good condition as well, with no rips, tears, or splits in the leather. All stitching remains tight and unbroken, and all staples are still in place and tight. The retaining strap is still present and the snap is functional. This is a very nice example of the fighting knife made famous by the Marine Corps, the KABAR, and would compliment any WWII Marine collection.
