This book is a first edition written by John O'Hara Cosgrave II, published in 1963, the narrative is 42 pages and is illustrated with color and black and white drawings. This book was written and illustrated by Cosgrave in the early sixties, and centers on the American built clipper ships of the 1840's to 1860's. The clippers were built for one specific purpose, speed. They were used to carry passengers and cargo all over the world. Cosgrave goes into great detail with the construction of these magnificent ships. He tells of the crews responsibilities, from the Captain of the ship on down to the deck hands. The illustrations go a long way in conveying the story Cosgrave tells of these long gone speed merchants of the sea. This hardback book is in good condition, but does not have a dust jacket.
