This is a trade axe head from Southwest Virginia circa early 1800's. It recently came into the shop along with a couple of Civil War items. The iron head is 5" wide at the cutting edge and 1 1/2" on the polled side. Just traces of the added steel on the cutting edge are visible. The overall width of this axe is 9 1/2". This one has seen quite a bit of use, but is still capable of having a haft installed and getting back to work! It came with verbal history of being found in an outbuilding in Bristol, Virginia. If you have a cabin or rustic decor in your home or office this piece would really add to it!
