This is volumes I & II of a three volume set of books that was written by Everet A. Duyckinck, illustrated with engravings by Alonzo Chappel and Thomas Nast, published by the Johnson, Fry and Company in 1862, the total narrative is 1280 pages and is illustrated with black and white engraved images. Both books are in rough condition, with each having issues with the condition of the spine on the front and back boards. The first volume has completely separated from the front and back boards. The remainder of the book is still bound together, with the exception of the first page. The second volume has the exact same issue with the front and back board separation. The binding is still very strong for all pages of the second volume. The context of these books is in very good condition. The print is very legible and easy to read. The illustrations are all in very good condition. These volumes provide valuable, in depth contemporary accounts, drawn from official documents and first hand narratives of the war years. These hard back books are in rough condition, and never had a dust cover.
