This is a US Army duffel bag from WWII identified to James S Osborn. I haven't been able to do any research on him, so here's a project for somebody! This authentic WWII duffel bag is made of heavy cotton duck canvas in olive drab #7 color. The bag has a single 2" wide carrying strap that was worn over the shoulder. The bag measures approximately 37" x 12" X 12". There are three metal grommets and one metal eyelet sewn into the top of the bag, to secure the bag. A snap hook sewn onto the carrying strap keeps the bag closed during transport. This one is stamped in black on the inside, "MANUFACTURED 1945/FRASER PRODUCTS COMPANY". Stenciled in black on the side below the carrying handle is the name JAMES S OSBORN and his service number 14165767. On the same side of the bag, at the bottom, a stencil reads G1-B119AA-?-A-3. Both stencils are one inch lettering and numbers. These are the only markings on the outside of the bag. There are three tears in the bag, all three about an inch long near the bottom. The carrying handle is still securely sewn onto the bag. All the stitching is still tight and unbroken. The rail shipping tag is still wired to the bag and reads Mr James S Osburn/ R#2/Winston Salem/N.C. with a declared value of $25. This is a nice, inexpensive item to start out your WWII collector with, plus they'll have some fun finding out who Mr Osburn was!
