This is a non excavated Model 1839 US waist belt plate. It measures 3 3/8" wide and 2 1/8" tall. The face has a small dent in the center of the U at the bottom. The lip of the plate has been rolled under at the bottom right side also. This plate uses the arrow hooks on the back, all three hooks are present. The lead back is all there too! This belt plate had been displayed on a wooden board along with the belt, cap box, cartridge box and bayonet in scabbard as an educational piece. Unfortunately this was accomplished by gluing the belt to the board. There is remnants of the glue on the back of the plate, along with a small piece of the original belt the plate was attached to. The brass still has quite a bit of shine to it. It's a great looking piece of Federal Civil War history for the belt plate collector.
