This is a tool caddy, or tray, from an early 1900's US Cavalry Farrier's tool kit. It measures 13" in length, 5 1/2" wide and is 2 3/4" deep. This would have resided inside of a leather "tool box" used by the company farrier to help maintain his company's horses. The tray is very sturdy, even though it is torn in one corner. It is made of russet leather and held together by brass brads. One side of the tray is embossed with a US inside a circle. The tray came with three small files and a hoof pick. The files are all Black Diamond files by H. & G. Barnett. There are also two horse brushes, one civilian type and one Model 1912. The military brush is embossed with the US within a circle, but no makers mark. There weren't to many of these Farrier's tool kits in the system, so this is a pretty rare piece. If you have a WWI Cavalry collection, you really need this!
