This is a reproduction leather action cover for the World War I German GEW 98 Mauser. These leather covers were used to help prevent dirt and mud from getting into the actions and chambers of the rifles encountered with trench warfare. These leather covers would be placed over the action of the rifle when not in use, and removed for firing. These were also used on the K98 Mauser used during World War II, mainly on the Eastern front. The leather case measures 17" long and 10 1/2" wide when unrolled. A makers mark and date can be found on the front of the case, B. Wiedermann/Berlin.N.39/1916.This will compliment any WWI Mauser collection, but really make your WWI German Infantry reenactor look great!
