Non Dug .31 Caliber Hexagonal Bullet

This is a .31 caliber hexagonal bullet with paper patch from the Civil War era. The bullet length is .785", is .302" across the flats and .321" across the ridges. The projectile, a round nose, has an aged, black patina to it. The paper patch is still intact, but shows wear from being handled. The tag that came with the bullet read ".31 cal HEX, Whitworth demonstrator". I have been able to find no information on .31 caliber Whitworth bullets.
