This is an original drawing done by Winslow Homer and printed by Harper's Weekly. The drawing is dated 3 Decenber, 1864 and is in excellent condition. It measures 14 3/4" wide and is 10" tall. The drawing is matted and mounted to a piece of foam board and is protected by shrink wrap. This one page from the Harper's Weekly looks just the way it did when it was printed almost 155 years ago. There are no smudges, stains, rips, tears, creases or folds on the page. The drawing is of three soldiers, two of them seated on a log while the third crouches down at their side. The seated soldiers, apparently Cavalrymen, are about to enter into the time honored practice of making a wish with the wishbone! In the background it looks as if they are in a large camp setting. The drawing is titled "THANKSGIVING-DAY IN THE ARMY.-AFTER DINNER: THE WISH-BONE." It also state the drawing was done by W. Homer, and is dated 3 December, 1864. The article looks like it could have been printed yesterday! If you collect Civil War documents this piece will fit right in!
