This is a toy cannon made by a soldier from the American Civil War period. The cannon measures 5 1/2" in length, 3 1/4" tall and 3 1/4" wide. The wheels are cast iron and painted black with the carriage being made of a hand shaped piece of wood. The cannon tube is brass, being made of an empty Maynard Carbine cartridge. There are no identifying marks or dates on the cannon anywhere. It was made either during the end of the war or shortly after the war ended. This is a truly unique, one of a kind piece made by a soldier to give to a child back home. It will make a great desk display item, Christmas or birthday gift.
