This is a letter written by someone identified only as Edward. The letter is dated December 15th, 1861 and Edward is writing from Camp Roghtor near Williamsburg, Virginia. It is address, "My dear Pa" and the entire one page letter discusses his commission. It has been two days since he last wrote his Pa, and since Christmas is near he is more anxious than ever to get his commission. Apparently he received a letter from his dad that was mailed out on the 4th of December, the same day that his commission was mailed, but only received the letter. He asks him to telegraph him to see if he sent it to him or to Richmond to the Secretary of War. He mentions a Col Fuller becoming impatient because he has not arrived, but will be there as soon as his commission arrives! This is a very early war dated letter, the context is very interesting and engaging. The hand writing is very clear and legible. There is very little punctuation used in the letter, which makes it a little difficult to read at times. This is a very early war dated letter from a hopefully soon to be commissioned officer to his pa. It would really add greatly to any document collection.
