Civil War Federal Cartridge Box with both ammunition tins and buckles. The closure tab is not torn but shrinkage would make it to tight to close now. Both of the buckles are reporting for duty and still a very sturdy example. The plate from the front is missing and from the patina been gone for a long time. The solider could have lost it or tossed it as extra weight. Quite possibly a Rebel could have borrowed it and had no need for a "US" plate. Solid example that someone with a box plate could be in business.
