This is a one piece coat size 1st Regiment of Light Artillery flat button from the 1808 - 1821 period. There is no back mark on the button. The button is in good condition. It has the script letters LA encircled by 16 five point stars, the number 1 below the letters, all on a lined field. The button measures 19.97 mm, with the lined filed being 12.5 mm. There are many examples of these buttons attributed to being used during the War of 1812. It is made of cast brass and has a seam line on the back near the shank. The shank is securely attached,but is perfectly straight. The button has a very nice chocolate patina. I have no history as to where this one was excavated. It will make a nice addition to any button collection.
