This is a pewter figurine from Chilmark entitled "Billy Yank" sculpted by Francis J. Barnum in 1994. The pewter figure of a Union infantryman comes on an attractive round wooden base that measures 2 1/2" across and is approximately 4 1/2" tall. Barnum went into great detail, showing the Sergeant standing, reloading his rifle. He holds his rifle with his left hand, his right hand grips the ramrod. Billy Yank wears a frock coat with the chevrons of a Sergeant. His M1839 oval US belt plate with belt and cap box are clearly visible. His cartridge box with plate is slung over his left shoulder, while his haversack and canteen are slung over his right shoulder. Ol' Billy wears standard brogans and a McDowell style forage cap without insignia. The wooden base is signed F J Barnum. This piece would make a great desk ornament or a decorator piece in your war room, perhaps the perfect birthday or Christmas gift!
