This is a United Confederate Veterans reunion jacket from the early 1900's. This eight button coat is made in the style of a double breasted frock coat and is for a child. It is constructed of four panels of high quality gray wool material. There are eight buttons on the double breasted opening. The eight buttons on the front and two on the back are all marked as South Carolina state seal buttons. There are no cuff buttons on the sleeve. All the buttons are back marked WM. C. ROWLAND PHILA except one. One of the buttons on the front of the coat is a replacement back marked N.S. MEYERS, INC. NEW YORK. The smaller South Carolina button on the top right is missing. The jacket is fully lined with a satin brown cotton material. The sleeves are lined with the same material as the body of the coat. There are two exterior pockets and no interior pockets. There is a small amount of moth damage, primarily above the right pocket. The photo's show all the areas affected. The upper right corner of the right pocket has also become unstitched for about 1/4". The jacket shows some light use, probably a grandchild that accompanied his grandfather to a couple of local area reunions. It is still strong enough to be worn today. This would really be cool in a South Carolina UCV collection to go along with some veterans jackets!
