This is a United States Navy G-1 leather flight jacket from the Vietnam War era. The G-1 flight jacket is the commonly accepted name for the fur lined collar WWII era flight jackets worn by US Naval, Marine Corps and Coast Guard aviators. The G-1 flight jacket remains a current issue item for aviation personnel in the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard on active flight status. This G-1 is a size 42 and is in good condition. The leather remains very supple and the color is a very rich chocolate brown. The fur lined collar is in good condition. The knit trim on the cuffs and around the waist band show areas of wear and a few moth holes and picks. The zipper is functional and both front pocket buttons are present. The label sewn into the jacket lining dates this one to between 1968 and 1969. The MIL SPEC contract number of MIL-J-7823D(WP) dates the jacket between 1966 and 1971. The makers name of "The Martin Lane Co., Inc." puts it between 1968 and 1969. It does not appear that this jacket ever had any patches sewn on it. If you have a Vietnam era aviation collection, or if you just have "the need for speed", this Top Gun look alike won't let you down!
