Late 1800's Cast Iron Stirrup

This is a cast iron stirrup from the late 1800's. They are commonly associated with southern plantation saddles and are sometimes believed to be Confederate used during the Civil War. This stirrup is post Civil War, and this style was very popular during the late 19th century. This style was commonly found on the Kentucky Spring Seat, or Somerset saddle. This stirrup measures 5" tall, 4 3/8" wide and has a tread width of 2 1/2". The stirrup has a dark, aged patina with surface rust and pitting. It was found in an old log cabin in West Tennessee.
