This is a pewter figurine from Chilmark from the "Leaders Of Gettysburg" collection of Brigadier General John Buford sculpted by Francis J. Barnum in 1997. The pewter figure of General Buford comes on an attractive round wooden base that measures 4" across and is approximately 6" tall. A limited number of 1200 of the Hood figurines were made, this one is number 284. Barnum went into great detail, showing the general standing, looking out over the battlefield. He is standing in front of a corner section of a rail fence. He is pointing at something on the field with his gloved right hand, his left hand is empty. Buford wears a variation of a sack coat with incorrect Major General shoulder straps. He is wearing his sword belt rig with a Model 1851 sword plate buckle and binocular case over his shoulder. His sword and scabbard rest against his left leg. On the right side of his belt he wears a holstered pistol, most likely a M1860 Colt. Brigadier General John Buford was a Division Commander at the Battle of Gettysburg and was instrumental in delaying a superior Confederate force with his two brigades of cavalry on the first day of battle. This piece listed for $225 when originally released. It would make a great desk ornament or a decorator piece in your war room, perhaps the perfect birthday or Christmas gift!
