This is a Tennessee State flag made by the Sherritt Flag Company, Inc. of Richmond, Virginia. The flag was manufactured in the 1950's and measures 3' x 5'. The flag is made of 100% cotton and is made by machine sewing together the different panels. The stars are printed, not sewn. There is a small tear on the heading by one of the brass grommets. That is the only flaw with the flag. The heading shows a couple of round rust marks where someone used tacks to pin the flag up on a wall at one point. The label sewn on the heading reads "Sherritt Flag Co. Inc./Flag Mfg Since 1922/Richmond 30 Va". Printed beside the label is the number RN23014/100% COTTON/3X5 FT. The colors are still very vibrant, yet the white shows the flag has some age to it. The Tennessee State flag was designed by Leroy Reeves of the 3rd Regiment, Tennessee Infantry and was adopted by the state legislature on 17 April, 1905. Reeves stated: "The three stars are of pure white, representing the three grand divisions of the state. They are bound together by the endless circle of the blue field, the symbol being three bound together in one, an indissoluble trinity. The large field is crimson. The final blue bar relieves the sameness of the crimson filed and prevents the flag from showing to much crimson when hanging limp. The white edgings contrast more strongly the other colors." This will look nice displayed in a log home, cabin or any other Tennessee dwelling!
