This is a box quiver with a bow and arrows from the late 1800's, possibly early 1900's era. The quiver is made of rawhide versus tanned animal hide. It has a sleeve to carry the box as well as a quiver for the arrows. The quiver is of the open top variety to allow quick access to the arrows. The rawhide has been dyed a red and blue color. The quiver has a red band with blue spots and a blue line underneath the red at the top and bottom of the quiver. Between the two ends are four red u shaped designs, with a blue dot in the center of the open end. The bow sheath has been dyed read at the ends with a blue stripe underneath the red. A sling is attached to the quiver to allow it to be carried over the shoulder. Rawhide fringe is used to decorate the quiver. The bow is a Selfbow, meaning it is made of a single piece of wood. It is 43 1/2" in length, I am unsure as to the type of wood. The box has been incised at several locations, apparently for decoration. The six arrows measure from 24" up to 27". They do not have projectile points, but are simply sharped points on one end and notched for the bow string on the other. I believe these to be made of dogwood. Most likely this was used during the reservation period for the Native Americans, possibly for ceremonial use. It makes a great decoration for those of you with the Native American themed house or business!
