This is a Model 1950 enlisted mans uniform from the Korean War era. The uniform is made up of the M1950 jacket and the wool serge field trousers. This style of jacket became popularly known as the Eisenhower, or "Ike" jacket during World War II. The M1950 differs slightly from the WWII era Ike jacket. The sleeves do not have cuffs, the throat closure tab was deleted, the adjustable buckle waist straps were replaced with a single button, one inner pocket was deleted, the front pockets were changed from expandable to non expandable pleats and removing the pocket buttons in favor of two small ball and socket snaps in each corner of the pocket flap. The quartermaster tag in the right pocket of the jacket shows this one was made by A. DUBOIS & Son, INC., dated March 10, 1951 and is a size 38R. The tag is very legible, to include the inspectors mark. The chevrons are of the 1948 variety, when the Army changed to the smaller 2" wide stripes. Combat arms soldiers wore subdued dark blue chevrons on a yellow background, while support soldiers wore yellow chevrons on a dark blue background. Neither combat or support troops liked the new design. In combat many went with the new stripes, while others reverted back to the older 3" stripes that were worn during WWII. In February of 1951 the Army abandoned the "Goldenlite" stripes for the 3" wide olive drab chervons on dark blue backing. The stripes indicate this soldier was a combat arms type between 1948 and 1951. The unit patch on the left sleeve is of the 40th Infantry Division. This divison has seen service from WWI through current day. During the Korean War the division fought in such notable battles as the "Sandbag Castle" and Heartbreak Ridge. The 40th Division suffered 376 killed in action and 1457 wounded during the war. Three of the "Sunshine" Division soldiers earned the Medal of Honor during the Korean War. The pants with this uniform are in mint condition, as well as the jacket. They are marked TROUSERS, FIELD, WOOL, SERGE O.D.-33 18 OUNCE and are made by the Harvard trouser company and dated 24 Sept. 1947. The jacket and pants are both free of any damage or stains. Along with the uniform is an olive green tie. This is an excellent example of an enlisted mans dress uniform from the Korean War era!
