This is an oil painting on canvas of Thomas Jackson during the Mexican War era. The painting is an oval and measures 16" high by 13" wide. The canvas has been nailed to an wooden oval insert that fits into a decorative wooden frame measuring 21 1/4" high by 18" wide. There is a small piece of white canvas on the back that reads "RESTORED BY ANTHONY VANCE NOV. 1975". Unfortunately I cannot find any clue as to who the original artist was. The painting depicts Jackson somewhere in the Mexican War era, when he was without his beard and wearing a junior officer's uniform with shoulder straps. The condition of the painting is slightly degraded, but still clear enough to make out who it is. With a little help this old portrait of Stonewall, before he was Stonewall, could help add a little splash of color to your war room!
