This is a 1920's US Naval Academy Midshipman's dress tunic from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. The black wool material this tunic is made of is in incredible condition. There is absolutely no damage or stains at all. The single breasted short tunic has two rows of 9 Navy buttons on the front, with one button missing in action. That is the only flaw with this amazing tunic! All of the buttons have the Jacob Reed's Sons Philadelphia back mark . The six cuff buttons are so tight a back mark cannot be seen. The tunic was made by the Jacob Reed's Sons Company according to the label in the inner pocket. The body of the coat is a six panel construction. The black wool color is still very vibrant and unfaded. The top and front of the standing collar has gold bullion. On each collar there is also an anchor of bullion. The lack of stripes on the sleeves indicates that this was a 4th class midshipman, or 1st year student. The tunic is fully lined, to include the sleeves. There is one interior pocket, a vertical pocket on the left side. The makers label reads as follows: JACOB REEDS'S SONS/Philadelphia Name LC Snoenhas Address 117E-12256 Register 214 11/3/88. This identifies the tunic to an L. C. Snoenhas. Lee Christian Snoenhas was from Syracuse, New York. He enrolled in the Naval Academy in 1928. The address line is most likely his class number of 117E and the register line would be his student number and date of enrollment of 11 March, 1928. This tunic has tremendous eye appeal and makes an outstanding display on it's own.
