The face of the button shows colonial era men on either side of a shield with an eagle above the shield. Beneath the shield, under an inscription in Latin, is the word Maryland. There is a small spot on the left side of the button where the gilt has been blemished. These buttons were used during the Indian Wars on coats worn by members of the Maryland State militia/guard.
