This is a Civil War era wooden tompion for a .58 caliber musket. It measures approximately 2 1/2" long and is tapered. These were made to have an interference fit in the musket barrel to keep water and debris out. Some were made of cork with a brass head, (Enfield) while others were all wood. This one has survived in great condition, having made it's way into the shop inside a cartridge box. These really complement your Civil War long arms collections.
